The first, headed by the chair of Creative Writing, stands for the development of the inner voice, the desire to write and the finding of personal ideas. The second involves learning the principles of dramaturgy, while in the third students practice the tools of this trade in working groups, learning how to write captivating narratives. This, too, is dramaturgy, but here instead of learning rules, they explore the interplay between storyteller and listener. In the first year screenwriting students take courses together with students of film directing in order to learn all aspects of film making. All students make at least one short film of their own. After that, the programme concen- trates on dramaturgy seminars in all formats and research techniques, including a practical internship with a production company. Every- thing students have learned at the HFF then flows into a feature-length screenplay. Accompanied by an experienced writer, students work for a full year on drafting a treatment and reworking it into a finished screenplay.
